 FARNBOROUGH, UK, 3 October 2007- Autodesk, the world leader in 2D and 3D design software for the manufacturing, building, construction and plant markets, has launched its new piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) product, AutoCAD P&ID 2008, in Europe following a successful launch in the USA.
AutoCAD P&ID 2008 is a key application in a forthcoming suite of products Autodesk will offer to the plant design market. It is built on the widely used AutoCAD platform so many drafters in the industry will be able to use the new software with no additional training. The latest version improves many features to make P&ID creation, modification and management even easier. The 2008 release includes improvements in project setup, drafting usability, equipment behaviour, data access, editing, DWF publishing, ISO standards support and customisation amongst others.
Bruce Jenkins, president of research and co-founder of Spar Point Research, LLC sees promise in Autodesk's entrance into the plant market. ''In addition to being a familiar, widely adopted P&ID drafting application, AutoCAD P&ID 2008 now lets engineers extract accurate P&ID logic and information necessary for critical operational and design decisions, without requiring the central database or highly structured project-centric setup procedures associated with much more complex systems.''

Customers, like Pfizer Engineering Services, based in Sandwich, Kent who's using AutoCAD P&ID 2008 expect to see significant time and cost savings. ''The overall costs of our services to our company will be reduced because our P&IDs can be drawn more efficiently, staff are familiar with AutoCAD, they have additional data rich information within them, and Process Engineers now have quick and easy access to complex reporting functionality,'' says Tim Delbaere, Drawing Office manager, Pfizer Engineering Services.
